Are you planning to nurse your baby and don't know where to start? Having trouble getting your baby to latch comfortably - or at all? Don't know if baby is getting enough or fear that your milk supply isn't sufficient? Have questions about how to offer both the breast and a bottle or how much your baby needs? Trying to make a plan for a return to work while pumping? Feeling totally overwhelmed with frequent feedings and deciphering diapers?
Breast/chestfeeding is natural, but it's not always easy. It requires learning and practice for both you and baby. Ideally, bottle feeding should mimic feeding at the breast to allow baby to pace feeds and bond with you during meals. While everyone has an opinion about if, how, when, and where you feed your baby, even those who support your choices may lack the skills to do so if there are any challenges.
I am an international board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) offering in-home support in Middle and West Tennessee (between Nashville and Jackson) and parts of Kentucky and telehealth support for many locations during your lactation and feeding journey including prenatal consultations, assistance with getting started nursing your baby, bottle feeding, returning to work, weaning, and addressing challenges at any point along the way.

In-home and Virtual Lactation Support

Feeding your baby should be an enjoyable experience for both of you. Sometimes nursing goes smoothly from first latch to the last bittersweet nursing session and weaning. Sometimes babies do well learning to take a bottle. Other times, folks need a little help at one point or another to meet their breast/chest/bottle feeding goals. If you anticipate challenges or experience difficulty, many issues can be worked through for a satisfying and successful feeding relationship. Here are some common challenges I can help you work through:
- pain during or between nursing sessions
- concerns about milk supply - too much or too little?
- multiples
- difficulty with latch
- induced lactation and relactation
- concerns about baby's weight gain
- non-gestational nursing
- difficulty introducing a bottle or going between nursing and bottle feedings
- pumping
- feeding sessions that are unusually long or frequent
- returning to work or school
- history of breast/chest/back surgery
- difficulty nursing a previous baby
